Welcome to my blog,

if you haven’t been here before my name is Phoenix, I’m a luxury portrait photographer based in Los Angeles, CA. If you’re returning, welcome back!

Today, I’m celebrating the significance of May 5, 2023 - not just because it’s Cinco de Mayo, but also the joyous occasion of baby Wesley’s first birthday!

In this blog, I’ll take you on a colorful journey through a fiesta-themed session in celebration of baby Wesley being born on Cinco de Mayo. As a parent (of a now 15 year-old son), cherishing every milestone in your child’s life is so important. Preserving memories and first birthday photoshoots are a must-have.

A first birthday is a significant event, marking the completion of a year filled with love, growth, and countless memories. A portrait photoshoot allows you to freeze those magical moments in time and create a lasting keepsake. I’ve got some exciting ideas on how to recreate this vibrant look for your own little one’s special day.

Why First Birthday Photoshoots Are a Must-Have

  1. Capturing Milestones: The first year of your child's life is filled with developmental milestones. From their first smile to their first steps, these moments pass by in a blink of an eye. A photoshoot provides a tangible record of these precious achievements, enabling you to re-live them for years to come.
  2. Celebrating the Journey: A first birthday photoshoot is not just about taking pictures; it’s about celebrating your child’s incredible journey. By creating a special session, you can convey your love, pride, and gratitude for their growth. It’s a day of love, laughter, and memories that will be treasured forever.

Recreating the Fiesta-themed Look:

Let’s dive into the vibrant world of our fiesta-themed photoshoot and explore ways you can recreate this fun setup for your own little one’s first birthday celebration.

Colorful Decorations:

To achieve the fiesta vibe, incorporate bold and festive colors such as red, yellow, green and blue. My client got all her decorations (and baby’s outfits) from Esty to create a fun look. We used a white wall in her home and taped the pinwheels on the wall. After, we laid a white sheet on the ground and scattered pom poms, a pinata, and cake on the floor.

Festive Outfits:

Dress your child in a cute fiesta-inspired outfit. For boys, a traditional Mexican-style shirt paired with shorts is adorable. Girls can wear a vibrant dress with flowers.

Cake Smash Delight:

A cake smash session is a playful way to capture your child’s reaction to their first taste of cake. For this cake smash, mom brought a cake from her favorite place, Nothing Bundt Cake and they had a fiesta themed cake and she added extra decorations to it as well. To achieve a cake smash you can encourage your little one to dig into the cake by placing your little’s hands in the cake or placing some frosting on their nose.

A fiesta-themed first birthday photoshoot is a great way to celebrate your child’s special day while preserving treasured memories. Instead of having them sit on social media, your phone, or hard drive, display them in your home. These sessions provide a glimpse into the joy, love, and growth experienced during the first year of their lives. By recreating a vibrant fiesta look, you can create an unforgettable experience for both you and your little one.

Remember, the most important thing is to capture the genuine memories of happiness and celebrate the journey you’ve embarked upon together. So, gather the decorations, grab your camera, and let the fiesta begin!
